La Prima Notte di Quiete An immersive installation exploring the boundary between reality and cinematic fiction through the spaces of an elegant house
Loro Piana and Dimoremilano debut together for the first time at Milan Design Week 2025 with an engaging and immersive project where the real and the plausible intertwine, creating a captivating experience inside Loro Piana’s Cortile della Seta courtyard, in the Maison’s Milan headquarters.
As visitors cross the threshold, they are transported to the foyer of a vintage cinema, complete with deep red velvet curtains, leopard-spotted carpeting, beautiful furniture, and brass appliqués. Here, guided by masks, guests prepare for the viewing of La Prima Notte di Quiete, an installation that recreates a fully-furnished house inspired by an apartment and 1970s and 1980s, decorated with exceptional furniture designed by Dimorestudio for Loro Piana Interiors; new and classic pieces from Dimoremilano upholstered with Loro Piana Interiors fabrics; items from the Loro Piana The Art of Good Living Collection; and antique pieces and art. The artworks on display are from Tornabuoni Art, Cardi Gallery, and Galleria Gracis e Secci Gallery.
Each room lights up, offering spectators a privileged view of the style and elegance of the details and materials.
Like in a film – conceived and directed by Dimorestudio – that overturns expectations, the cinematic twist of the installation transports visitors into another dimension. Fanning out between an entrance, a dining room, a living room, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a small garden, the Loro Piana house transforms into a muffled refuge, an intimate space that protects from the elements, noise, and external chaos. Warm earthy tones and natural materials such as cashmere, wool and cashmere, velvet, sisal and wool carpeting exude a sophisticated calm. The tension between silence and movement also inspired the title La Prima Notte di Quiete, within an exploration of the boundary between reality and cinematic suggestion, which is the central theme of the entire project. The house embodies calm and silence, offering comfort and protection from noise and chaos, thus providing a first night of tranquillity.
The light softens, shadows stretch across surfaces, and materials envelop with their tactile density. The comforting feel of home comes to life through familiar sounds: a phone ringing, a piano playing, the muffled patter of rain on the windows. The quiet is occasionally interrupted by the sounds and stimuli of the installation, creating a tension between silence and movement. The sound is curated by music composer and multimedia artist Nicola Guiducci.
The plausibility is achieved by the perfect balance of the décor, where distinct objects of various natures and origins coexist, as in homes where the sophisticated taste of the inhabitants is expressed through never-banal choices.
Among these are the new furniture pieces conceived by the design duo for Loro Piana Interiors: the Quarona poufs and coffee tables, where curved wooden bands embrace padded seats covered in Cashmere Ladakh and wool and alpaca Incas, or support the shelves that hold books, magazines, decorative or dining objects.
The Valsesia oval table is the undisputed centrepiece of the dining room with its lacquered wood top and Altai wool and cashmere fabric, its legs softly joined by a tubular steel element with both structural and decorative purposes. This tubular steel element from the table also appears in the Varallo round bed with a fabric-covered box spring and padded rollers that form the headboard, upholstered in Mohair velvet. It is precisely metal, together with glass, that represents the new element and evolution of Loro Piana Interiors furniture, complementing the house’s most exclusive fabrics and wood, now presented for the first time in a lacquered version alongside walnut burl. Surprising are the Locarno cabinets in three different heights, inspired by museum showcases, where Altai wool and cashmere fabric are enclosed between two mirrored glass sheets to create the doors or cover the structure, offering a pleasant tactile experience. Finally, the velvet Trivero armchairs
and chairs with lacquered wood legs, satin brass jewel details, and padded and quilted backs, combine luxurious comfort.
The rooms are further enriched by an exquisite selection of new and iconic pieces from Dimoremilano. The Bullet ceiling lamp, with its sleek design, and the elegant Geometrique and Bodice lamps stand as functional yet artistic accents, while the Block desk and Carl low table exude refined minimalism. The Snooker couch and armchair, along with the Corner modular sofa, armchair, and pouf, create a relaxing setting defined by sophistication and comfort. These pieces, all crafted in Loro Piana Interiors fabrics, blend contemporary design with unparalleled craftsmanship. Alongside these new creations, timeless Dimoremilano designs like the Tavolo 089, the Dega, the Sciura, and the Patty armchairs are reinterpreted in Loro Piana Interiors’ sumptuous fabrics. These designs emphasise tactile luxury, creating an inviting atmosphere where every detail contributes to a harmonious whole.
Loro Piana introduces a tableware collection. It is called Punti a Maglia and is handcrafted in Limoges with the finest porcelain by the skilled hands of approximately 50 artisans. Crafted with exquisite precision, each piece is decorated with a pattern of threads that chase, knot, and intertwine, linking the French excellence and tradition in porcelain with Loro Piana’s textile savoir-faire. With this fascinating new endeavour, the Loro Piana offering in the art de vivre world comes full circle.
The installation is open to the public from Tuesday, April 8th to Sunday, April 13th, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Visitors must book the time of the show they wish to attend through the dedicated platform at https://booking.loropiana.com.
